This 3-BAR CROSS PENDANT was handcrafted in Poland from Baltic amber and sterling silver. The pendant measures 2.75" long x 1.50" wide and has a sterling bail. Amber is a resin that was exuded from prehistoric conifer trees. As the resin hardened, organisms were caught and dehydrated creating the unique "inclusions" seen within almost all pieces of amber. Throughout the course of history, amber has been put to various uses. Ancient peoples burned it as incense; sailors burned it to dispel evil spirits; amber amulets were worn to preserve chastity; and powdered amber, mixed with honey, was ingested for asthma, gout and the Black Death. Amber pieces should be cleaned only with lukewarm water or olive oil on a flannel cloth. Hair sprays, perfumes and chemical cleaning solutions may damage the surface of amber.
