This AMBER BLOWN GLASS DROP SET was handcrafted from sterling silver and blown glass in the Mexican city of Taxco de Alarcon. (The name of this small city in the Mexican state of Guerrero was most likely derived from the Nahuatl word "tlacheco" meaning "place of the ballgame". Nestled in the mountains between Mexico City and Acapulco, Taxco is a charming colonial town with winding cobblestone streets and whitewashed houses with red tile roofs. In 1522, the Spanish conquistadors learned that the inhabitants of the area paid tribute to the Aztecs in silver. They conquered the region and set up silver mines. Over the years the town's silver industry grew. In 1929 William Spratling opened a silver workshop selling designs based on pre-Hispanic art and training other artisans in silver work. He is considered the creator of Taxco's modern reputation as the silver capital of Mexico.) Set includes a sterling and glass 1.75" long pendant and sterling/glass 1" long post earrings.
