| TREE-FREE's paper is made from Kenaf, a 4,000 year old crop with roots in ancient Africa. This wonder fiber is related to hibiscus and is a cousin to cotton and okra. Currently grown in the southern United States, Kenaf rises to heights of 12-14 feet in less than six months. The use of Kenaf helps to protect the environment by saving animal habitats and by reducing the need for use of toxic chemicals ordinarily used during the process of bleaching wood pulp when trees are used to make paper. A sister company to The Mountain, Tree-Free is located in New Hampshire. Their web site is www.tree-free.com. While they do not sell directly to the public, they can be contacted to obtain the name of a shop in your area carrying Tree-Free cards. |
