HIGH CROSS OF THE GAEL CARD was created from an original painting by Courtney Davis. St. Patrick incorporated much of the spirituality of the pre-Christian Celtic tradition into his work with the early Christians. His conversion of the Irish people came from a genuine change of religious perception on the part of those people. This is expressed in the form of the Celtic cross which evolved from the ancient symbol of the sun wheel. A ringed cross silhouetted against the sky has come to characterize Ireland, hence the form of the ringed cross is often called an Irish cross. At its most complex, this high cross of the Gael involves a stepped base, a shingled roof or elaborate capstone, carved pictorial scenes and other ornamentation. 5"x7" blank card with decorated inside and decorated outer envelope.
