Product Details
MEDIEVAL SUNFLOWER HOLY WATER FONT was produced by a small team of craftsmen using the same hand-throwing and glazing techniques used hundreds of years ago. Each piece is handpainted and, in some cases, the terra cotta clay will penetrate the white glaze. Firing support points used may be evident on the back of the pieces. The artisans' mark is on the bottom of each piece. Known as The Moors, a group of Arabs and Berbers invaded the Iberian Peninsula from North Africa. They established an empire called Al Andalus and ruled for seven centuries. As their culture thrived, so did their arts and crafts. Historical records show that this type of pottery was flourishing in the city of Toledo by the 11th century. Over time, the design range expanded to include the painted re-telling of the epic adventures of knights and noblemen. Excavations and preservation of this pottery, along with continued reproduction by Toledo's ceramicsts, have allowed us this artistic opportunity to look back in time. 5.5" high x 3" wide. Piece comes with a story card. ONE AVAILABLE.
