This ST. HUGH'S SWAN ROUNDELETTE was handcrafted by a group of artisans collectively called Winged Heart. They work in Brampton, England in Cumbria near the Lake District. Some of the home painters work over the border in Scotland. The design is first silk screened onto the glass. Colors are applied with non-fired lacquer. The pieces are finished with chains and placed in boxes with individual suction cups. Some lead is used in the traditional finishing of each piece. Roundelette measures approximately 3" in diameter. Variations may occur due to the individual nature of the work. This design was inspired by the stained glass window in Lincoln Cathedral. Saint Hugh was the archbishop of Lincoln from 1186-1200. It was said he kept a swan as a pet.
