Product Details

This SWAN MAIDEN FAIRY TALE NESTING DOLL is made up of five individual dolls. The tallest, outside doll measures 6.50" tall. The next doll is 4.50" tall. The third doll measures 3.75" tall. The fourth doll is 2.75" tall. The smallest doll is 2" tall and does not open. Handpainted and decorated with 24 carat gold. (Nesting dolls were invented in the late 1800s as toys and often were not decorated in any way. Known as "matryoshkas" in Russia, these dolls are quite labor-intensive to make. They start out as unfinished wood that has to be sanded and shaped. Trees are harvested and cured for years, then carved into the doll shape. Pencil outlines are made of the design to be painted. Once painted and otherwise decorated, each doll receives several coats of lacquer. While nesting dolls attract people of all ages, they are for the most part no longer considered toys. Nesting dolls with small parts may present a choking hazard and very few of them are appropriate for handling by younger children.) ONE AVAILABLE.
